Salmonella Served at Quiznos Sickens 10 in Minnesota

Yet another outbreak of Salmonella poisoning. This time, it’s linked to a Quiznos Restaurant in Rochester, Minnesota. At least 10 people, including 3 Quiznos employees are sick. Health officials in that state are trying to determine if the Salmonella originated with contaminated food, or if a Quiznos employee brought the Salmonella bacteria to work.
So now, Quiznos can be added to the list of restaurants responsible for spreading this food borne illness. Last year, Salmonella-tainted raw tomatoes served at restaurants around the country sickened dozens. And just this summer, over 700 people in the Chicago area became ill from Salmonella after they ate at the Pars Cove Restaurant food booth at the Taste of Chicago Food Festival.
Anyone who ate at the Quiznos at 499 22nd Avenue NW in Rochester should see a doctor if they experience diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 72 hours of their visit. Salmonella is nothing to fool with – extreme cases can cause Reiter’s Syndrome, a hard to treat disorder that can lead to chronic arthritis.
The Quiznos closed Wednesday after it became clear that the Salmonella outbreak was related to the restaurant. But it reopened today after it was scrubbed and sanitized. Hopefully, that will be enough to put an end to the Quiznos Salmonella outbreak.
