February 15th, 2008 joshua
A manager at the ConAgra Foods facility in Sylvester, GA recently told TV station WALB-TV that its been six months since the plant started making Peter Pan Peanut Butter, and Feb. 14 marked a year since it was forced to close its doors because of salmonella poisoning.
The manager says the company determined a roof leak caused the contamination. Since then it has fixed the roof and changed the floor plan at the plant to counter any future contamination threats.
Salmonella tainted a supply of Peter Pan. It sickened more than 600 people in 47 states.
ConAgra separated the raw products at its facility from the finished jars of peanut butter. It also replaced the roaster and put in a new air system to control humidity.
