Eight people contracted E. coli poisoning at a church outreach dinner Saturday in Southern Alabama, according to the Web site, BaldwinCountyNow.com.
About 300 people attended the Eastern Shore Baptist Church 10th Annual Beast Feast and Wild Game Supper over the weekend. Though only eight cases of E. coli have been confirmed, about 20 people showed symptoms of food poisoning.
Alabama public health officials could not identify the source of the bacteria, and are conducting more tests to determine a source. The event is an attempt to draw men to church who normally don’t attend.
Attendees were to bring a covered dish to the pot-luck style festival. Meat was smoked on site at the festival.
