Frozen Chicken Dinners Blamed for Minnesota Salmonella

Minnesota public health officials are linking a most recent salmonella outbreak to raw, frozen, breaded and pre-browned, stuffed chicken entrees.
Milford Valley Farms Chicken Cordon Bleu is the product in question after two more cases of salmonellosis were recently identified. The chicken entrée has a stamped code of C8021 and is sold in numerous grocery store chains, according to The Litchfield Independent Review.
Minnesota officials say the two people afflicted by salmonella contracted the poisoning between February and March and each presented the same strain of the food-borne illness. One was a teenager and another, a young adult. Both were hospitalized and have since recovered.
This is the fifth salmonella outbreak in Minnesota since 1998 related to such products.
Since the product in question was pre-cooked, officials say consumers are assuming it means the chicken is cooked, though packaging instructs consumers to fully cook the product.
Minnesotans are being urged to follow safe, clean practices when handling raw poultry and meats and to not use microwaves to cook the products because they often undercook foods.
