E. coli outbreaks linked in two ways

Filed June 27th, 2008 joshua

The Centers for Disease Control said earlier this week E. coli outbreaks in Ohio and Michigan are linked to each other.

Also, regulators in Atlanta further identified ground beef as the source of the contamination.

Officials in Michigan said at least half of the 15 people infected with E. coli bought ground beef at Kroger’s supermarkets.

Kroger representatives said they were notified tainted beef was purchased in their stores in both states. It is working with its supplier of its ground beef to determine the cause of the contamination.

People began reporting symptoms of E. coli infection on May 31 and continued through June 8.

In that time, at least 24 people have been confirmed to have contracted E. coli poisoning by the CDC.
