Health officials in Utah have confirmed a case of E. coli poisoning in conjunction with an outbreak which has affected nearly 50 people in Michigan and Ohio.
The outbreak has been linked to ground beef sold at Kroger Co. stores in those two states. The meat, believed to be 5.3-million pounds, was recalled by Nebraska Beef Ltd. earlier this month.
The beef in the Utah case has been linked to product sold at Smith’s stores there, but the beef was also supplied by Nebraska Beef.
The Utah victim noticed symptoms in June and was hospitalized, according to an Associated Press report.
The Centers for Disease Control have confirmed 49 cases to date, the balance of which have been pinpointed in Michigan and Ohio. New York also confirmed at least one case of E. coli poisoning in conjunction with the recalled beef.
