FDA investigating Nestle plant in charge of cookie dough production

Filed June 24th, 2009 joshua

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the Nestle production facility in Danville, Va., at the center of the Toll House cookie dough E. coli outbreak.

Last week, Nestle was forced to recall 48 varieties of Toll House cookie dough after it was found to be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

The contaminated dough has been linked to at least 65 cases of illness, 25 of which required hospitalization. At least seven people have contracted a form of kidney failure as a result of the contamination.

Nestle stopped production at the facility last week and allowed the FDA to commence its investigation.
