Queens company recalls sealed Herring packages due to posssible Botulism poisoning

Filed February 5th, 2010 joshua

A Queens company is recalling one lot of its Whole Schmaltz Herring because it was not properly cleaned and carries a risk of Botulism poisoning.

According to a report from Haifa Smoked Fish in Queens, N.Y., vacuum-packed Whole Schmaltz Herring with a Lot number of 20 was not eviscerated before it was distributed.

The fish was shipped to retail locations in New York and New Jersey, but could be available elsewhere.

No injuries have been linked to this possible contamination. It is against the law to sell uneviscerated fish in New York as that is where health officials believe most of the potential contaminants would live.
